DMV (Department of Motor Vehicles) 是一個類似監理站的地方. 在美國生活過, 應該都會有個傳說中的 DMV 經驗. DMV 是一個可以讓你輕鬆排隊排到天荒地老, 行員效率也總是茶餘飯後被消遣的對象. 曾有電影 Zootopia (動物方城市), 其中一個情節就是在嘲諷 DMV 行員的效率, 像樹懶(sloth) 一樣超級慢.
當然, 還是要平反一下, 現在有慢慢改善, 很多事情其實已經可以在網路上做, 既便真的需要到 DMV, 也都可以事先預約, 避免長時間的等待.
DMV Now Kiosks
之前為了繳交汽車的 registration fee, 突然發現到 DMV 有推出一個 自助服務機 的方案, 稱之為 DMV Now Kiosks. DMV 在 2018/05/07 的新聞稿: Avoid the Lines – Easy Ways to Renew Registration
DMV Now Kiosks 可以做什麼?
這台 DMV Now Kiosks 到底可以做什麼呢? 根據官方說法, 這台可以處理以下事情:
- Complete your vehicle registration renewal
- File for planned nonoperation (PNO) status
- Pay a vehicle registration suspension reinstatement fee
- Submit an affidavit of non-use (ANU)
- Remove an ANU
- Submit proof of insurance when requested by the Vehicle Insurance Program
最重要的, 是以下這段話:
Multiple payment methods are accepted. A registration card and sticker, PNO acknowledgment, or receipt is printed at the kiosk after the completion of your transaction.
在處理完特定事項, 比如說繳完汽車的 registration fee, 他就會在交易完成後, 直接印貼紙出來給你, 就不用再等 mail 啦! 超方便的啦!
付費須知
基本上, 市面上主要的 credit card 或是 debit card 都可以支援.
- Cash (some locations)
- Credit card (Visa, MasterCard, American Express, Discover)
- Debit card (Visa or MasterCard logo)
但要特別注意, 從 2019/09/29 開始, credit card 跟 debit card 的交易, 將會多收 2.1% 的服務費.
Beginning September 29, 2019, credit and debit card transactions will be charged a 2.1 percent service fee.

其實會發現, 不少大超市, 像是 Ralphs, Vons, Safeway, 或 Superior 等, 都有在特定地點設置自助服務機台.
